Hello, I'm Sunny. My mama and daddy adopted me in November of 2000. I sure do like my new home. I get lots of lovin' and hugs and ear scratches and my daddy likes to throw my fuzzy ball for me to chase. For some reason he thanks I should bring it back to him. I haven't quite figured out why. It is much more fun to play keep-away with him. My little sister, Pumpkin likes to play keep-away too. I take her toy and she tries to get it back. That's lots of fun.
My life hasn't always been as good as it is now. I haven't always had a family to live with. I was homeless, and humans were really mean to me. Mama says I was abused. I just know I was really lonely and hungry. One day I was walkin' down the street in the rain, and the dog catcher spotted me. I thought I was a gonner 'cause I was just too weak and hungry to run away. I was really afraid, but it turned out to be one of the best days of my life. When I got to the dog pound, the lady from the Humane Society was there. She looked at me and just shook her head and said, "That dog is so skinny and bedraggled and that no one is going to want to adopt him." That made me sad, but do you know what? Dogs like me were the reason she was there. She took me with her. And she took me to the house of another lady named Enid. There were lots of dogs at Enid's house. And she was real nice. She took care of me and gave me all the food I wanted. I even got to sleep in the house. The was the first human I ever remember that was nice to me. She even took me to the doggy doctor to get my shots and get me all well and healthy. But after I had been living with Enid a few months, she told me that it was time to find me a new home all my own. I wasn't too sure about that, but she and the Humane Society started talkin' me and some other dogs to different PetCo stores for adoption days. Well, one of those days, this lady walked into the store. She had come to get some stuff for her kitty, but she looked over at me and smiled, and then she came over and started scratching my ears and talkin' to me. Enid came over and took me out of my pen and we all went outside to sit in the sun and talk. And guess what? That was my mama, and she took me home with her. That was the very best thing that ever happened to me. At first I was really scared of my new daddy, because man humans had always been so mean to me. But he just talked to me, and every time he reached his hand out to me, instead of hitting me, he gave me a little treat. That's how I learned I didn't have to be afraid of him. Now I really do like him whole bunches. He like to play with me, and he takes me and my sister, Pumpkin, for a walk, first thing every morning before he even eats breakfast.
This is me in the snow. It was lots of fun to play in the snow.
Someone told Mama that I looked really ferocious in this picture, but I'm really just barking at snow flakes. I really like to bark. Sometimes Mama says, "QUITE, NO BARK!" at me really loud. She says that I can't just bark all the time or the neighbors will complain. She especially does this when we go outside at night. I think that is really silly, 'cause there are lots of things goin' on outside the fence that need to be barked at.
Snow flakes feel cold on your nose.
I knew livin' here in the summer was gonna be fun. We went to visit Mama's sister who lives on a ranch in the Texas hill country. Would you believe, they have their very own lake. Swimmin' is so much fun.
And I found out that I have a cousin named Cola. She's a chocolate lab, and we had so much fun playing together. I can't wait until we go back and visit again. Mama promised me that we would do that soon. Mama says that I am gonna live with them forever and ever. I really like that idea. It is good to have a family that loves you.
