...How does your garden grow?

My PLANT LIST is the index to the various plants I grow.  Each has its on page which contains photographs I have taken and lots of good reference material about the plant.  Just  click on any of the plant names that are underlined for the page dedicated to that particular plant. A few plant pages are not finished and ready to see, but will be up soon. I hope you enjoy them. I am having lots of fun putting these pages together.

And a new feature...you can click on any of the flowers pictured on this page to take you to the the page that tells you about them.

I have also added "A Green Thumb Glossary" to my pages.  Just click here to go there.

Oh yes...if you look closely, you may also find garden faeries hiding on my pages.

Where?

Where are the fairies?
Where can we find them?
We've seen the fairy-rings
They leave behind them!

When they have danced all night,
Where do they go?
Lark, in the sky above,
Say, do you know?

Is it a secret
No one is telling?
Why, in your garden
Surely they're dwelling!

No need for journeying,
Seeking afar:
Where there are flowers,
There fairies are!

My Garden Fairies

They flit through my flowers with hardly a care,
The moon shines on their wings, there's mist in the air.
Do they know I can see them when I sit very still
And gaze into the night from my windowsill?

Sometimes, the next morning, I see tiny prints,
Of bare little feet... and there's other hints,
That the Fae folk have chosen my yard to abide
They've turned my irises into a fun winter slide.
The stalks sometimes droop, so I start to snoop,
And if the morning sun shines just right,
 I can see,
Under my tree,
The Fairy Dust left from last night.

I won't let them know that I know they're there.
I'll let them flit through my flowers with hardly a care.

I'd miss them so much if they went away,
And found another garden in which to play.

My doves have came back again this year to nest in my bougainvillea basket. She raised three broods in the spring and one in the fall.

I took so many dove pictures as they hatched, grew and left the nest for my garden, that I have given the doves a page of their own.  Just click on the dove picture to move there.

I have FINALLY built a page with the plans for my greenhouse. If you are interested in building one for yourself, go take a look.  They may work for you.  You can go there by clicking on the underlined words.

Greenhouse in Winter

Greenhouse in Summer...Frame without plastic

Gardening can easily become a passion...
an addiction

She dug the plot on Monday
The soil was rich and fine,
She forgot to thaw out dinner
So we went out to dine...

She planted roses Tuesday
She says they are a must,
They really are quite lovely,
But she quite forgot to dust...

On Wednesday it was daisies
They opened up with the sun,
All whites and pinks and yellows
But the laundry wasn't done...

The poppies came on Thursday
A bright and cheery red,
I guess she really was engrossed
She never made the bed...

It was violets on Friday
In colors she adores,
It never bothered her at all
All the crumbs upon the floors...

I hired a maid on Saturday
My week is now complete,
My wife can garden all she wants
The house will still be neat!

It's nearly lunchtime Sunday
And I cannot find the maid,
Oh No! I don't believe it!
She's out there WITH THE SPADE!!!

You know you are a gardening addict when...
  • The first thing you do each morning is go out to see your garden.

  • You go out back to empty the trash and two hours later you come back inside with dirt under your fingernails and grass stains on your knees.

  • All errands include a trip to the garden center. "I'm not going to buy anything, I'm just going to look." Yeah, sure.

  • You carry little packages in your purse so that no matter where you are, if you find some cool seeds, you can collect them.

  • When you cannot work outside in your garden, you read about it and plan what you will do in the spring.

  • When you cannot wait for spring, you start seeds inside so they will be ready to plant when the weather allows.

  • You love internet gardening forums and clubs.

  • You get excited about mulch and compost.

  • You won't cook outside or go to picnics during the heat of a Texas summer, but nothing can keep you from taking care of your garden, even when you are dripping wet with perspiration and beat red in the face from the heat. You just go inside to drink water and cool off and are right back out there.

  • You take more pictures of your plants than anything else.

  • You set up a web page just so you can tell other people about your garden and show them your pictures.

Plants can be so beautiful that sometimes we forget that some of them are fatally poisonous.  I have started a list of poisonous plants that you need to be aware of, especially those of you with children. Just click on the underlined words to go there.

While on holiday in the Pacific Northwest we visited The Butchart Gardens in Victoria, British Columbia. In order to share this fantastic garden with you, I have set up a few pages with the pictures I took there.

I have moved all of the links to my favorite sites to their very own page.  Please go check them out and see if you like them as much as I do.
